What is Wonder Lab Academy?

WLA is a private microschool serving ages 7-12. Students must be 7 by 9/31/26 to start Fall 2026. We are going to be located in downtown Kansas City, MO, near the streetcar.

Is this program right for my child?

Wonder Lab Academy is designed for students who crave challenge, depth, and purpose in their learning. We serve families who believe education should prepare children not just for tests, but for life, leadership, and impact — and who hold equity and inclusion as core values in how they engage with the world.

What is the application process?

Interested families will complete the application, pay the application fee, and schedule a 15-minute phone call.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

The Foundation for Wonder Lab Academy provides need and merit-based scholarships to students enrolling in Wonder Lab Academy. The application page is coming soon.

What curriculum resources does WLA use?

Wonder Lab Academy uses a culturally responsive literacy curriculum. The resource provides instructors with guided lessons that prioritize inquiry, based on social studies, real-world learning, and individualization to challenge each learner at their independent ability level. Our math curriculum is game- and inquiry-based to provide students with active learning that they then apply in their businesses and political roles in Wonder City, a student-run simulation city.

Do students wear uniforms?

Yes, students wear uniforms. WLA provides students with the following items:

Boys: Blue Blazer, Blue Sweater, Orange Polo, White Polo, Orange and White Letterman Jacket, Grey Slacks

Girls: Blue Dress or Grey Pleated Skirt, Blue Sweater, Orange Polo, White Polo, Orange and White Letterman Jacket.
